She gave away her children. Now she wants them back.

Charlotte Morgan knows how it feels to desperately want a baby. As a child, seeing her mum devastated by losing her longed-for babies, Charlotte wished another woman could give her mother what she so craved.

Now Charlotte’s a mum herself, and knowing how much love her daughter, Alice, brings into her life, she vows to help others achieve their dreams of becoming a parent.

When she meets Malcolm and Brenda on a surrogacy website, it seems that she's found the perfect couple. In their late forties, they have wealth and a enviable life, but there’s just one thing missing – a child of their own.

When Charlotte falls pregnant with twins, the couple are overjoyed. And while Charlotte’s heart breaks as she hands them over, her reward is knowing how much happiness the two tiny babies are going to bring into their life.

But are Malcolm and Brenda all they seem? As secrets become unravelled, Charlotte is forced to face that she has handed her babies over to virtual strangers. And when Malcolm and Brenda disappear without a trace, Charlotte is plunged into a frantic search for the babies she carried – before it’s too late...

Wow what a debut! This is a first class psychological thriller that will have you dropping everything. I am still blown away that this is Ruby’s debut novel. There are very few books from a first time author that keep me engaged right from the get go wanting more and more. I felt a connection with the story and with Ruby’s writing straight away. I definitely had a book hangover after I finished this one! The plot of the book is very compelling and an intriguing one. The subject of surrogacy is extremely well researched and this story shows the darker side to it which is not something that we often hear about. It is not a subject that I have actively read up on, so Ruby does a great job in also educating the reader at the same time. The characters have been brought to life on the page beautifully, even the unlikable ones and they are all very well written and developed. A great job has been done in making you feel what the characters are going through, at each point in the story, from elation to utmost fear and panic as the story progresses. The standout character for me was definitely Charlotte. A selfless woman helping a couple unable to have children fulfil their dream. It made me think about the women that do this in the real world and they should be commended. It would take a very special person to be able to do this. I loved the effortless style of writing, where Ruby kept me enthralled throughout with short snappy chapters that kept the pace of the book flowing, which makes this an easy and enjoyable read. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time reading this. Ruby has created a unique story that I throughly enjoyed and which I highly recommend. I look forward to reading more of Ruby’s work and I will wait impatiently for the release of her next book! As I have seen other’s say and which I completely agree with, is that Ruby is definitely an author to watch out for and she is a rising star in the psychological thriller genre. Thank-you to NetGalley, Hera Books and Ruby Speechley for allowing me to read an advance copy of Someone Else’s Baby, which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

This was such a page turner! I read it in less than 24 hours. I could see the big twist coming from a mile away though....SPOILER:: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxcccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccc who has sex a few days after being inseminated as a surrogate? Wouldn't you at least get a paternity test before handing over the babies?! Charlotte and Steve never even talked about the possibility that he could be the father. I thought they must have forgotten they had sex. But when they get the news she's like "We did have sex a few days after but I thought that was enough time."
