‘क्राय ऑफ कालाहारी’ हे पुस्तक म्हणजे कालाहारी वाळवंटात सात वर्षे राहिलेल्या मार्क आणि डेलिया ओवेन्स यांच्या जंगली प्राण्यांच्या सहवासातील अनुभवांवर आधारित कादंबरी आहे. त्याचा मंदार गोडबाले यांनी मराठी अनुवाद केला आहे. बदली कपड्यांचा एक जोड आणि एक दुर्बीण वगळता बाकी विशेष काही न घेता मार्क आणि डेलिया या तरुण अमेरिकन जोडप्याने प्राणिजीवनाचा अभ्यास करण्यासाठी आफ्रिकेचे विमान पकडले. तिथे पोहोचल्यावर एक जुनाट लँडरोव्हर गाडी विकत घेऊन त्यांनी कालाहारी वाळवंटात (डिसेप्शन व्हॅली) खोलवर मजल मारली. ते सात वर्षे त्या परिसरात राहिले. विशेष म्हणजे त्या ठिकाणी कोणीही मानव कधीही गेलेला नव्हता, तिथे ना कोणते रस्ते होते, ना कोणी माणसे. हजारो चौरसमैलांच्या परिसरात पाण्याचा कोणताही स्रोत नव्हता. त्यांच्या आजूबाजूला जे प्राणी होते, त्यांनीही कधी माणूस पाहिला नव्हता.
