About this ebook

Strippers, drugs, and headless corpses? All in a day’s work for Bubbles Marlowe, HoloCity’s only cyborg detective.

Does she like her job? No. Is she good at it? Also no.

She can’t afford to be too good. The last time she got curious it cost her a job, a limb, and almost her life.

But when a seemingly simple case takes a gruesome turn, and Bubbles discovers a disturbing connection to the cold-case death of an old friend, she is driven to dig deeper.

And deeper.

Until what she uncovers can never be buried again…

Blade Runner meets The Fifth Element in this eccentric cyber-noir thriller series about a bleak world ravaged by corrupt leaders, mega-corporations, and crime lords… and the washed-up detective who might be the only one crazy enough to take them on.

Bubbles in Space is a darkly funny mashup series for fans of space opera, cyberpunk, and hard-boiled noir thrillers. Delve into the secrets of this gritty future world, and buckle up for an adventure full of unusual characters, dark humour, and non-stop action. Read Tropical Punch for free!

With an opening that reads like it should be set in the same universe as Blade Runner, and plenty of references to Raymond Chandler and Dashiel Hammett, Jensen has done a good job of crafting an old school PI novel with a science fiction setting. The semi-cheesecake cover, acting as an homage to the crime pulps of the 40s and 50s, adds to this. Just like one of the pulps, it's pretty much all action, but we do get to know our main characters, and there are plenty of plot twists - many of them unexpected - along the way to keep the reader guessing. And it has a bit of a cliff-hanger ending, to encourage the reader to continue with the series. This was a fun read, and a series worth continuing.

sometimes the slang can get a little distracting but like the sneaky Canadian isms,( Lucky Bastards,Sky Train). A fun story with lots of twists and large dollops of word play and dialogue de RCdressing. I'd go along for the ride anytime.

Could not finish this book, due to the so-called fifties slang. It was probably an interesting story, but I will never know. I looked into the back of the book for the definitions. Only to be told that " bangtail" is a racehorse. Since that slang has been used since the 1700s for an entirely different profession, I decided to leave this review, then delete the story. I am unable to suspend my belief enough to accept this author's slang or definitions. Sorry.

About the author

S.C. Jensen is a Canadian fiction writer, sci-fi enthusiast, and literary advocate. At least, that’s what her replicant ID states. She lives on the windswept prairies with her husband, three children, and various fuzzy friends. When she's not writing, she can be found trying to avoid mosquitoes, sunburn, and/or frostbite in the great outdoors while waiting, somewhat impatiently, for the singularity.
