About this ebook

Now a major motion picture streaming on Netflix!

The first installment of Scott Westerfeld’s New York Times bestselling and award-winning Uglies series—a global phenomenon that started the dystopian trend.

Tally is about to turn sixteen, and she can’t wait. In just a few weeks she’ll have the operation that will turn her from a repellent ugly into a stunningly attractive pretty. And as a pretty, she’ll be catapulted into a high-tech paradise where her only job is to have fun.

But Tally’s new friend Shay isn’t sure she wants to become a pretty. When Shay runs away, Tally learns about a whole new side of the pretty world—and it isn’t very pretty. The authorities offer Tally a choice: find her friend and turn her in, or never turn pretty at all. Tally’s choice will change her world forever.

Tally, an ugly, meets a girl, Shay. Shay talks of leaving before she has to become 'pretty'. She doesn't want to be pretty, she wants to live life on the outside. When she runs away Special Circumstances steps in and sends Tally to find her and the supposed Smoke. When Tally arrives she tries and tries to turn them in but soon falls in love with the new place. She tries to destory what was given to her to turn them in but that just sends a signal to Special Circumstances and by the time Tally wakes up the Smoke is in flames and all her new friends are gone or being attacked. Tally runs. She finds David, her new love, and they go back to Tally's city to fight Special Circumstances and free all her friends.. But it was to late to save Shay. She had become a pretty. There is a secret about the pretties that no one was supposed to know... Read as it all unfolds

I am 36 yo and I really liked it. I guess if it was for adults it would be even better, a bit more realistic (even though there are set backs, everything goes pretty smoothly for the lead character). But the story is good enough to keep me curious about the next in the series!

Uglies was written by Scott Westerfeld. Scott Westerfeld mostly writes science fiction novels, but occasionally he wrote ghost stories. He wrote three different sets of books, and Uglies was part of the second set. Uglies was also the first book of the set followed by the other three books Pretties, Specials, and Extras. Uglies mostly focuses in science fiction and drama. When you start to read the book your going to feel confused because it gives you so many things all at ounce. At first i thought the book was boring, but when you start to get closer to the third paragraph things start to get interesting. Thats what made me finish the book. Uglies is about people who live in two different towns Pretty Town and Ugly Town. When your born you go straight to ugly town. When you turn 16 you have a special surgery that makes you pretty. The reason this book has drama is because theirs two best friends that turn 16 a couple of months away. Tally turns 16 before her best friend, and she sneaks in pretty town just to see him. She gets into so much trouble because she gets caught. I felt like this book was focused to much in science fiction because having a surgery to be pretty is to much. I'm mostly more into books related in real life. What i disliked about this book was that everything seemed so fake maybe because i know it would probably never happen. One thing i liked was all the drama between the two best friends because i can relate to the two best friends that are far apart.
