Online Teaching Survival Guide: The Best Teaching Strategies and Tools for Your Online Classroom.

The current coronavirus pandemic has abruptly changed multiple aspects of our daily routine.

Social distancing, staying inside our homes, and various rules and regulations have disrupted our lives enormously.

We were suddenly expected to adapt as quickly as possible to this new world, without having time to grasp this new reality, let alone prepare for it.

The education system has surely gone through one of the biggest changes--from the well-known and familiar classroom surroundings, teachers and students have had to transfer to the online world.

For the majority of teachers, this process turned out to be incredibly challenging. Online teaching is very different from traditional classroom teaching, and facing the vast world of online tools and teaching platforms can be shockingly intimidating.

How do you prepare your material for an online course?

How do you deliver the class to your students so they’re engaged and interested?

What is everyone on about when they talk about hybrid learning, and flipped classrooms?

These are just some of the questions that have been plaguing teachers all over the world.

Many of them couldn’t wait for the crisis to be over, and to go back to their regular routine--but now it looks like online teaching is here to stay.

Experts agree that online learning has many benefits, and some countries are even considering fully transferring to this type of teaching. The rest of the world is also preparing to incorporate online teaching into their education system to some extent.

In both cases, teachers will need to step out of their comfort zone and dive straight into the alien world of online teaching.

If you’re a teacher, or someone aspiring to become one, this prospect might scare you, especially if you’re not tech-savvy or haven’t had experience with online teaching tools.

Luckily, there are multiple ways you can overcome this particular problem, and transfer your amazing teaching skills from the actual classroom to the virtual one.

In Teaching Online, you will discover:

The difference between classroom and online teaching, and how you can successfully apply real-life teaching methods to virtual media

Types of online classes and courses you can combine to provide the best learning experience for your students

The book 'Teaching Online' by Selena Watts is an interesting read. Based on her own experiences, Watts discusses the challenges of teaching online for students and teachers. The challenge of motivating students to engage in digital learning is one that many educators face. Building strong relationships with students, both inside and outside of class, can facilitate their participation. However, an online class does not allow for this type of student-teacher contact. A new way to engage students is needed as a result. Watts outlines that as teachers we need to create effective learning experiences that break away from traditional teaching methods. In addition, she suggests that we should rely on evaluation tools provided by the software companies to assess student progress. Furthermore, she provides descriptions for these tools and explains how they can be used to assess student performance in multiple ways.

"If you're looking for a comprehensive guide to teaching online, then this is an excellent resource. It covers everything from the basics of setting up an online course to more advanced topics like using multimedia and social media in the classroom. She also includes helpful tips on how to create engaging lesson plans and manage a virtual classroom effectively. One of the things I liked best about this book is that it's written in a very user-friendly style. The information is easy to follow, and there are plenty of helpful examples and exercises to help you put what you learn into practice. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced online teacher, ""Teaching Online"" is definitely worth a read. I highly recommend this book to anyone who's interested in teaching online."

About the author

The world has changed more than we ever could have imagined since the global health crisis. We are concerned not only for our education but for the education of our children. Selena Watts appreciates that both the way we teach and the way we learn has to change. All three of her books are dedicated to those who are passionate about becoming better educators.

When Selena moved to a different country, the only thing she could do was teach English. Even though she was a native, she felt like she needed some formal qualifications. As a mum to young children, she couldn’t go to university, so she began learning online.

Despite gaining qualifications in teaching and business management, she didn’t feel that her learning included practical advice on how to teach. Each course told her the importance of lesson planning, but it was only her experience preparing classes that enabled her to become the teacher she is today.

Selena Watts created a series of three books, Teaching Online, Teaching Yourself to Teach, and Creating Courses Online. Each one contains step by step guides using terminology that we are all familiar with.

These three books are written with such passion for her students, that Selena Watts inspires her readers to become better. They take the qualities that teachers have and enhance them. She has spent years testing teaching strategies and now provides some of the best methodologies to engage students so that they love learning.
