For more than one hundred years of their institutionalization, cultural studies or Kulturwissenschaften and semiotics have enabled, through the connectivity of their theories and methods, an inter- and transdisciplinary research practice, particularly conspicuous today in research topics shared by semiotics and naturalcultural studies or Naturkulturwissenschaften. The contributions to the collection mark waypoints towards a systematic mapping of the wide range and history of exchange of terminologies and models between Kulturwissenschaften or cultural studies and semiotics.
