Yang kiri mengatakan dengan lantang bahwa mereka sebenarnya tidak berasal dari kulit sapi yang sama. “Mana mungkin!” kata yang kanan menegaskan. “Kita berasal dari seekor sapi. Kulitnya yang lebar itu disamak, lalu dipotong-potong dengan mesin untuk membuat kita. Kulit seekor sapi cukup lebar untuk membuat beberapa sepatu, tahu!” “Ya, tapi bisa saja potongan-potongan itu bercampur sehingga tidak jelas lagi berasal dari kulit sapi yang mana. Kita ini asalnya berbeda. Aku jelas sapi Jerman, kau entah sapi apa, mungkin sapi Prancis.”
