He is the co-designer of the popular series, Teach English Now! at www.coursera.org, where he helps thousands of aspiring teachers obtain a TESOL Certificate from Arizona State University. He holds a doctorate in educational technology from Arizona State University and a master’s in English (with an emphasis in language planning and policy) from Brigham Young University. He is the author of 100 TESOL Activities: Practical ESL/EFL Activities for the Communicative Classroom.
Dr. Shewell is the co-designer and primary producer for the largest TESOL certificate course in the world, Teach English Now! This program, currently on the Coursera platform, boasts 250,000 learners from 194 different countries. He has taught English in the Middle East, Asia, and the United States. He is the author of 50 Ways to Teach Online, and several other book chapters and articles on language teaching and using technology in the language classroom. He is a regular presenter at international and regional conferences on language teaching and educational technology. Dr. Shewell holds a Ph.D. in Educational Technology from Arizona State University and a Master’s degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Brigham Young University.
Jenny has 23 years of teaching experience, including elementary school, online, and at the collegiate level. She has a Master’s degree in Elementary Education with a reading endorsement, as well as a TESOL certificate earned through Dr. Dixon’s and Dr. Shewell’s Teach English Now! course on Coursera. Jenny has taught English to Chinese students online for the past three years, and was privileged to teach English in Jinan, China. She helps recruit teachers and students to do an international exchange program in China each summer. Currently she teaches reading courses at a local community college, as well as courses at ASU for students in the Mary Lou Fulton Teacher Education program, and supervises students while in their student teaching residency.
