About the author

•Shankar Sharma, Ph.D. (Economics, University of Hawaii), is a Fellow at the ASEAN Economic Research Unit, Institute of Southeast Asian Studies. He is also the Coordinator of the Energy Project at the Institute. He has published several monographs and articles on energy and the economy and has served as consultant to many national and international agencies.

•Joseph L.H. Tan is a Senior Fellow at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies, where he has served for 11 years since obtaining his doctorate from Harvard University. He is also Coordinator of the Institute's ASEAN Economic Research Unit.
