I've waited a long time for Flashback to come out, but I'm not sure if it fulfilled all my expectations. Nightfall was so good! I think it was hard to write a follow up to it. Maybe. I haven't really written a review before, so sorry if it seems weird. These are just my impressions. SPOILERS AHEAD!! I asked my friend Rorianna about her impressions and they were pretty much the same. Flashback felt like a fanfic. More questions were introduced, as well as more cultures. I mean, that's cool, but some of the long-standing questions continue to be unanswered, and I fail to see how they can be wrapped up in the next two (probably) 800 pagers. Most of the characters were absent for most of the book, with little-to-no development. I was also sad that Keefe became more distant when Sophie began doing more Cognate stuff...not just because Keefe is a favorite character of mine, but because he added balance to the fast pace. The fighting training wasn't as detailed as I would've liked to read, with only one or two important scenes. I'll try to be neutral on this next topic, but it's hard: I did not like how the love triangle panned out. (Sorry.) As a character, I just don't like Fitz as much as Keefe. Maybe something will change... I liked how the Neverseen are developing. The evidence that they're getting more violent is showing that I am underestimating them a lot. And I liked how the bit about Silveny's babies turned out. Maybe that will teach the elves to have a little less prejudice. And the ending? I liked how Alvar's memories were triggered–that was smart, though could've been figured out with mimicking. All in all, it was a good bridge between the next book, but I wish it could've had more attention to detail and actually answer some questions. Also, the cliffhanger was too forced in my opinion. As was the decision to even GO there. And the Tam thing is a huge sign that this series is going to start becoming more cliche. Note: I purchased the B&N exclusive edition which was a waste of money! The long-standing question was disappointing. And it didn't focus on the character or his story as much as Keefe's did. So I hope Lord Hunkyhair and his jokes make a BIG return in this next one, or I might stop reading the series. (Why is Google not letting me use carriage return??)

From all the little bits I've read from Shannon's posts on Instagram, I already know I love it because the book starts with Keefe and there's a Sofitz fail 🤣
