I am voluntarily submitting my honest review after receiving a NetGalley edition of this eBook. In the Worthington Wife, Sharon Page recreates the fantastic world of England in the Roaring Twenties. The entire Worthington Estate, including the manor, the family, the tenants and the land are so richly detailed that the reader is propelled into another time. But what makes this novel truly magical is Page's gift for weaving all those elements together to paint a portrait of an intricately ordered and ruled social fabric. Her insight into the workings of the truly grand estates and the transformations occuring in the post WWI world capture a bygone, but fascinating world of priviledge, power, rank, pride duty and tremendous loyalty that simply goes unparalled in any modern context. Page's complex, multi-faceted characters draw the reader in, and the haunting story of Cal's past, combined with the pathos and romance of Julia's search for love and a place in the world enthrall you start to finish. This is a book fan's of Downton Abbey, the Roaring Twenties, historical romance--indeed, anyone seeking a good read won't want to miss!
