Amanda Sumner discovers that she is the only Earthling who can hear the trees sing on Harp and determined to learn the planet’s secrets, she sets out to become part of the Guild but there’s one secret that could get her killed in this thrilling paranormal romance. Shifter Rhodry de Mendoza wants the Earthlings off his planet before they destroy it even if it means denying what he feels for the fierce and lovely Amanda and the reader can’t help but get caught up in all the intrigue and excitement as Amanda sticks to her guns which has fireworks exploding in every direction. There is lots of sizzling chemistry between Rhodry and Amanda but the relationship is slow to take hold because of Rhodry’s determination to keep Amanda away and there’s also added sexual tension from another suitor for Amanda while lots of emotional turmoil comes from Amanda’s determination to uncover all the planets secrets. The characters are strong, captivating and demand your attention while the steady to fast paced and smooth flowing plot keeps adrenaline pumping with suspense, excitement and romance. Anticipation builds lots of spine tingling tension throughout the story as the more determined that Amanda becomes the more dangerous it becomes for her with lots of political intrigue adding to the tension and excitement by upping the danger factor to include Rhodry. The scenes and details are well written, bringing the story to life and making it easy for the reader to picture each and every scenes while the intriguing events ensure that there is never a dull moment. Not only is this story more than I was expecting, it was also different than I was expecting (in a very good way), there are some surprising elements in this intriguing world and lots of interesting characters with Amanda certainly being one that was full of surprises and a charismatic pull that draws you in and refuses to let go. I was completely enthralled in the story from the very beginning and I’m hoping that D.B. Reynolds intends to write more books in this world as I would certainly like to visit Harp again.
