He was born in 1872 in Bandra, Mumbai, and worked as a clerk in the same city. His desire to associate with monks, saints, and sadgurus led him to have an unplanned darshan of Shirdi Sai Baba in 1909. In his dreams, Baba appeared and instructed him to come to Shirdi. He also served as Shrdi Sai Samsthan's joint treasurer.
