About this ebook

A city girl allergic to animals (and aliens)

June only registered with a dating agency because she lost a bet. She never expected to be invited to an all-expenses-paid trip to meet some hunky Highlanders.

What nobody told her: the Highlanders are aliens and live on a different planet. And they’re desperate for mates – so desperate that there’s no guarantee she’ll ever return to Earth.

As if that wasn't bad enough, the huge kilt-wearing alien she's matched to lives on a farm. In the middle of nowhere. With smelly animals all around. This is June's personal hell, but the moment she lays eyes on him, her body betrays her.

An alien farmer with a dark secret

Eron spends his days tending to his taigeis farm. The fluffy animals are all the company he needs. He’s broken off all contact with society, so when an old friend tells him that he’s been matched to a mate from a distant planet, his first instinct is to refuse the match.

But the instant he meets her, his mating antennae burn and he can only think of one thing: making her his. He desires her with every fibre of her being, but he can’t risk anyone discovering the terrible secret that made him an outcast.

Can he find the strength to push her away before she steals his heart?

If you want hot alien Highlanders in kilts, strong women who don't like being told what to do, fated mates and happily-ever-afters, dive into the world of the Starlight Highlanders.

I enjoyed this story about Eron and June. I read the first book in this series where we heard about Eron, so I really wanted to read this story to find out about the isolated alien and his mate. It was a read that I got interested in from the very beginning and was easy to follow the story. It was steamy and had a story line that was easy to follow. The reason that I gave this book four stars instead of five is because the drama in the story came from Eron keeping a secret and not wanting to tell June about things that happened in his past. When he told her, she immediately accepted him. There wasn't a lot of drama for the couple other than that secret. While I was wondering the whole story about this secret, the reveal and it's consequences did have a big impact on me. Other than that, I enjoyed the story. I can't wait to read the next book and find out about Beth and Cyle. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

The writing and editing of the ARC version of the manuscript was clean, with no typos that I found and a sparkling, charming authorial voice. The world building of these aliens with a culture very similar to the Scottish was briefly sketched out while conveying all the necessary information. I found the illustrations scattered throughout a charming world building touch. The characterization was good, with the heroine being intelligent and very sympathetic and the hero being an over the top possessive alpha male with refreshing self awareness. The development of the romantic relationship was sweet and spicy, with a heat level of four chili peppers due to some non-human anatomy. The plot was spare, which was appropriate for a story of this short length. The pacing galloped along quickly. There was low angst and medium stakes, which was a restful break from a lot of the romances I usually read. This novel used the Fated Mates trope, the Mars Needs Women trope, and the Matchmaking Agency trope. The world building, plot, and pacing were all four stars. The characterization and development of the romantic relationship were also four stars. I therefore gave this novel a combined rating of four stars. This story ended on a Happy Ever After ending instead of a cliffhanger ending, so that was a big plus. I recommend this novel to readers who enjoy sci-fi romances with a lighter, sparkling character. I look forward to reading the next book in this series when it releases. I may buy myself keeper copies of this whole series, since I am enjoying it so much, even though I do not usually buy stories this short. The novella is dual POV, well written, and a fun, fast-paced, arranged match romance. I enjoyed June’s assertiveness and, later, the interest she displayed in Eron’s world. I understood Eron’s concerns and enjoyed the way he adjusted to meet his biological imperative. Their intimate scenes were sweet and spicy, though the story finished fairly abruptly, though with a HEA, with the next one to pick up with a different couple where it left off. I received a complimentary copy of this book.

Skye MacKinnon is a USA Today & International Bestselling Author whose books are filled with strong heroines who don't have to choose. She embraces her Scottishness with fantastical Scottish settings and a dash of mythology, no matter if she's writing about Celtic gods, cat shifters, or the streets of Edinburgh. When she's not typing away at her favourite cafe, Skye loves dried mango, as much exotic tea as she can squeeze into her cupboards, and being covered in pet hair by her demon cat.
