Chapter 3: Solving Equations

In Chapter 3, we focus on one of the most fundamental skills in algebra—solving equations. This chapter guides you through the essential techniques and strategies for solving different types of equations, from simple linear equations to more complex ones. You'll learn how to manipulate equations to isolate variables and find their solutions step-by-step.

What You'll Learn:

Solving Simple Linear Equations: Begin with basic equations involving a single variable. Learn how to isolate the variable and solve for its value using inverse operations, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

Solving Equations with Fractions: Discover how to solve equations that involve fractions by eliminating the denominators, simplifying the problem, and solving for the unknown variable.

Solving Equations with Variables on Both Sides: Understand how to handle equations where variables appear on both sides. You'll learn to move terms and simplify to find the solution.

Solving Equations with Parentheses: Learn to solve equations that involve parentheses by applying the distributive property and simplifying before isolating the variable.

Checking Your Solutions: Learn the importance of checking your solutions by substituting them back into the original equation to ensure they satisfy the equation.

By the end of this chapter, you'll be proficient in solving a variety of equations. Whether the equation is simple or more complex, you will have the tools and techniques to solve it confidently. The chapter includes a variety of examples, practice problems, and tips to reinforce your skills.
