In 2009, Sonia Sotomayor made history when she became the first Hispanic justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. This wasn’t the first time she beat the odds against her, though. Growing up in a one-parent household in the Bronx, New York, she aspired to be a lawyer. Encouraged by her mother, she achieved this goal and so much more. Although many people view Justice Sotomayor as an inspiration, she sees herself a little differently. En el 2009, Sonia Sotomayor hizo historia cuando se convirtió en la primera jueza hispana del Tribunal Supremo de Estados Unidos. Sin embargo, no es la primera vez que salva obstáculos al parecer insalvables. Se crió sólo con su madre en el Bronx, Nueva York, y desde pequeña quiso ser abogada. Alentada por su madre, logró su objetivo y mucho más. Aunque muchos ven a la Jueza Sotomayor como una inspiración, ella se ve un poco diferente. Dice que “sólo es una chica del Bronx”.
