Story with a Light Touch and Great Characters What an absolutely delightful story! I particularly loved the hero, Devlin. He's a forthright man, dogged in pursuit of what he really wants and truly caring. I adored how he was with the heroine's daughter, Penelope. Penelope figured quite strongly into this, on several levels. She was certainly Devlin's champion. The story is told with a fair amount of humor and an almost tongue-in-cheek tone, especially at the beginning, which the author manages to pull off very well, surprisingly so. I did have issues with the heroine. Her hanging on to her lost love like she did was at first sweet, but then it became just annoying. Was she really supposed to give up any other chance at love and genuine affection for the rest of her days after her fiance died on their wedding day? Why would she be content to do so? I wish the author maybe had told us a little more about her relationship with that man, Penelope's father, so we could perhaps understand her 13+-year devotion which precluded any other relationship with a man. Clearly, Devlin and the heroine had a powerful attraction. Why would she deny both of them more for someone who would never be more than a memory? It seemed too extreme to be believable. This is a romance, so you know how it will turn out, but there were even more bumps in the road than this one. I found this completely charming read, and I would recommend it if you enjoy this kind of historical romance. I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

I absolutely adored this story as much if not more than the first two in this series. Once I began I was drawn in quickly and could not wait to see what would happen with Devlin and Cassandra. Devlin, the Captain of his ship, loved the life on the water and being at sea. He felt that marriage was not for him because he did not want to give it up. Deep inside he is scarred from his father's treatment, but he truly cares for his crew and his family. Loves his nieces and nephews and he really pulled at my heart! Cassandra is a friend of his sister in laws and has helped develop and run the orphanage they have together. She cannot get past the loss of the man she loved, who had tragically been killed before their wedding. but had left her with a child of their anticipated wedding day. That had been over twelve years ago and she still let it drive her life. But fate steps in and brings the two together, as they travel a winding journey for them both to heal and find that true love can happen no matter how much you resist! I adore this author's writing and look forward to each brilliant book she creates! Wonderful!

Loved the fact that Devin has cared deeply for Cassandra even though she was disgraced by having a child after her betrothed died on the morning of the wedding. He is a captain and been at sea for many years and wants to marry her and give her daughter his name. After the wedding he has a startling discovery and is afraid she will hate him forever. Hope you enjoy this as much as I did! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
