Tonight, Evelyn Hardcastle will be killed... Again

It is meant to be a celebration but it ends in tragedy. As fireworks explode overhead, Evelyn Hardcastle, the young and beautiful daughter of the house, is killed.

But Evelyn will not die just once. Until Aiden – one of the guests summoned to Blackheath for the party – can solve her murder, the day will repeat itself, over and over again. Every time ending with the fateful pistol shot.

The only way to break this cycle is to identify the killer. But each time the day begins again, Aiden wakes in the body of a different guest. And someone is determined to prevent him ever escaping Blackheath...

He set out to write a story that kept us page turning until 2am. Sorry it did not. I have read every Agatha Chirstie novel as a child and devoured them. This was more of a snack on the train. The body swapping was too similar to "Midnight at the well of souls" but without the care and depth. This was the problem. At no point did I care about the solution or the protagonists. I made it to the end with a shrug and a sigh. The concept was interesting without being compelling. I wouldn't really recommend it.

Caution: will have you staying up to 3am because you just have to know what's gonna happen next. Some wonderfully original ideas, shocking twists and turns, and it'll keep you guessing and trying to piece everything together right up to the end, on many layers all at once. Best book I've read in a good while, definitely now one of my favourites.

I devoured this book, starting Friday I finished Saturday night and it was the best experience I've had with a book for as long as I can remember. The writing is captivating, the plot draws you in and you cannot escape until you know just a little more about that fateful day...not noticing the hours flying by. I wish this Agatha Christie meets Groundhog Day concept was a genre with thousands of novels in it because I would read another one like this in a heartbeat. Well done Mr Turton.
