They are about acceptable language, ideas, and information around sexuality, emotions, and beliefs. #2 We all have different types of boundaries, and they can be flexible, rigid, or somewhere in between. Some people have set up camp in one of these categories, but most of us will operate on a continuum of these in different situations. #3 Permeable boundaries are those that allow things to pass through if they want to. They are typically defined for you by outside forces. Flexible boundaries are those that come from listening to your internal voice, which wants to protect you and help you grow. #4 Overly rigid boundaries are a response to past experiences, and they can be a form of overcorrection for boundaries that were too permeable in the past. Boundaries are meant to provide us with safe passage through life, not control every environment we are in and every person we interact with.
