जन्म : 25 अक्तूबर, 1943 को वाराणसी (उ.प्र.) में। शिक्षा : एम.ए., पी-एच.डी. (रीति साहित्य—काशी हिंदू विश्वविद्यालय)। कृतित्व : अब तक पाँच उपन्यास, ग्यारह कहानी-संग्रह तथा तीन व्यंग्य-संग्रह प्रकाशित। टी.वी. धारावाहिकों में ‘पलाश के फूल’, ‘न किन्नी, न’, ‘सौदागर दुआओं के’, ‘एक इंद्रधनुष...’, ‘सबको पता है’, ‘रेस’ तथा ‘निर्वासित’ आदि। अनेक राष्ट्रीय एवं अंतरराष्ट्रीय संगोष्ठियों में सहभागिता। अनेक कहानियाँ एवं उपन्यास विभिन्न शिक्षण संस्थानों के पाठ्यक्रम में सम्मिलित। कोलंबिया विश्वविद्यालय (न्यूयॉर्क), वेस्टइंडीज विश्वविद्यालय (त्रिनिदाद) तथा नेहरू सेंटर (लंदन) में कहानी एवं व्यंग्य रचनाओं का पाठ। सम्मान-पुरस्कार : साहित्य में विशिष्ट योगदान के लिए अनेक संस्थानों द्वारा सम्मानित एवं पुरस्कृत। प्रसार भारती की इंडियन क्लासिक श्रृंखला (दूरदर्शन) में ‘सजायाफ्ता’ कहानी चयनित एवं वर्ष की सर्वश्रेष्ठ फिल्म के रूप में पुरस्कृत।
