This is book six in the First Responders series, even though they are all stand alone books, it is a great series. Each novel focuses on one of the six elite first responders, it is fun to reconnect with those you learned to love in the previous First Responders series, yet it is not necessary to understand what is going on in this book. Jake Marsh takes an upfront role in this novel. He is the team leader for this special group of first responders. When he answers one of his calls he is not expecting the overprotective feelings that Rachael brings out in him. Will he be able to keep his feelings as bay while trying to solve this mystery? Rachael has secrets of her own and when she is running for her life will she be able to face the past or is it bound to haunt her forever. This book is full of mystery, suspense, love, romance, commitment and much more. I love the writing style of Sleeman, her books never disappoint. She grabs your attention from the beginning and keeps you guessing all the way to the end.

I have been waiting for Jake's book in this series but then I knew when I read it, it would mean that the series would be over! It is the final book in the First Responders series. Although you don't have to read all the other books to know what is going on in this book, you will get a lot of the background to the characters if you do. I have wanted to know Jake's background more and it was great to finally get it! In past books, he's held himself back a little bit in all the cases and we find out why in this book - what happened in his past that shaped him. Jake has been the leader of the First Responders. In this case, Rachael Long is in her day care one morning when an intruder comes in and tries to kidnap a baby in her care. She tries to defend that baby but the intruder injects her with something that incapacitates her. Fortunately, there is a live feed from a security camera to a computer being broadcast and someone reports it to the police so the First Responders show up. Jake is immediately drawn to Rachael for some reason and their lives begin to intermingle. Of course throughout the book, the intruder continues to come after Rachael and all the First Responders must solve the case! There is a lot of action and I especially liked getting caught up with the previous characters from other books! I will miss this series as I've enjoyed it very much! The author always has a great deal of action, fantastic characters and wonderful storylines! I would recommend this book!
