કારગિલનું ખરું આકર્ષણ કારગિલયુદ્ધના શહીદોનું સ્મારક છે. આ યુદ્ધ કશી જ તૈયારી વિના હડબડાટમાં આપણે લડ્યું હતું. એટલે ભારે ખુવારી થઈ હતી. પાકિસ્તાને લુચ્ચાઈ કરીને શિયાળામાં ખાલી પડેલી આપણી ચોકીઓ પડાવી લીધી હતી. આપણું ગુપ્તચરતંત્ર કાયમ ઊંઘતું રહે છે. વિજ્ઞાનનો પણ પૂરો ઉપયોગ ન કરાયો. ચાલો. બધાં પર્વતશિખરો આપણે પાછાં મેળવી લીધાં તે સંતોષની વાત છે. હંમેશાં આક્રમક સેના પૂરી તૈયારી સાથે આક્રમણ કરતી હોય છે, જ્યારે રક્ષિત જીવન જીવનારી પ્રજા કદી પણ આક્રમણ કરતી નથી, તેથી તે તૈયાર પણ નથી હોતી. આપણી આવી જ દશા છે. આપણે આક્રમણ નથી કરતા એટલે તૈયાર નથી હોતા. આપણે પ્રત્યાક્રમણ પણ નથી કરતા. આપણે સમાધાનઘેલી પ્રજા છીએ. જલદીથી જલદી સમાધાન કરી લો. આવી ઉતાવળના કારણે પ્રશ્નો વધુ વિકરાળ બન્યા છે. વાતચીત જરૂર કરવી જોઈએ. પણ તે ત્યારે જ સફળ થતી હોય છે જ્યારે ધરતી પર તમારો પગ મજબૂત હોય. આપણા પગ કાચા રહ્યા છે. તેથી પાકિસ્તાન આતંક ફેલાવે છે. પૂરી સૈનિક તૈયારી હંમેશાં રહેવી જોઈએ. પણ નથી હોતી.
