About this ebook

A chilling, gothic ghost story that delves into the dark past of the 16th century Essex witch trials.

To find the truth, she’ll risk her life...

Sadie Asquith has been fascinated by the Essex Witch Trials for as long as she can remember. And for good reason too: between 1560 and 1680, hundreds of innocent women were tried for witchcraft.

She begins researching the subject, but soon starts to experience strange, ghostly visions. Dark shadows haunt her every step, sobbing sounds wake her in the night, and black moths appear from nowhere.

It’s as if by digging up history, she has opened an unearthly connection to the women who were tortured and killed centuries before.

And when a long-buried secret entwines Sadie’s own past with what she has discovered, she’ll risk everything – even her life – to uncover what really happened all those years ago...

A haunting and atmospheric read that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Perfect for fans of The Lost Notebook and The Familiars.

The first chapter brimmed with promise; heart pounding pacing, building up to what I thought would be an explosive end to an unforgettable novel. Alas, it was but empty promises. The potential fizzled out by the second chapter with the slow, laborious descriptions of the protagonists descend into a mental darkness. The try-hard manner at which the author tried to juxtapose Sadie's spiralling mental state to her physical journey to the heart of the action in Essex is languorously tedious. A pity.

Well written and intriguing story, a mixtute of horror and historical fact-based-fiction thoroughly enjoyed, however it ended abruptly and far too soon in the story, so much so that I felt Sadie's character was not followed through to the end. Someone as persistent as her would not have stopped where she did, which was disappointing.

Interesting colonnial witch hunting era's research included, first chapter was tense and promising. Would've been more interesting for me- if it's half shorter to read, at some times it drags on, gets a tad bit long and not as exciting to read.
