I read this book many times, many years ago and it remains one of the best (almost- historical) yarns I've ever encountered. A wild ride through the lives of Ned Rise and Mungo Park.. The Nile, Beethoven, English and s Scottish history and much more... Excellent and storytelling at its very best. My father used to say don't let the truth get in the way of a good story..... And it certainly applies here.
