About this eBook

USA Today bestselling author Catherine Gayle presents another novella in the emotional Portland Storm hockey romance series.

Rising hockey star Jamie Babcock is ready to take the most important shot of his life—and this time, it’s not on the ice. Dating his teammate’s daughter might be riskier than going head to head with one of the Portland Storm’s rivals. But time is running out—it’s now or never.

High school senior Katie Weber knows all too well the woes of adolescence, but throw in a leukemia diagnosis, and her life just got a lot more complicated. With prom looming and a shiny bald head to contend with, Katie might sit at home on the most important night of her potentially very short life. Unless Jamie Babcock, her ultimate crush, finally makes the move she’s been praying for. But that’s not the only miracle she needs.

Now Jamie must show Katie just how important she is and how hard she must fight.

Before it’s too late…

This 20,000 word novella was previously released as part of the Seduced by the Game anthology.

Katie is battling leukemia and she has gone through one of the toughest realities of her treatment, the loss of her hair. It's time for prom and she’s convinced no one will want to be seen with her and part of the reason is her friends deserted her as soon as the word "cancer" was uttered. She's had a crush on Babs for years, but she knows asking him to take her would send her Dad, one of Babs’ teammates, reeling. Katie isn't alone in her crush, Babs has been crushing just as badly. He knows as well as she does that his teammate would flip if he were to ask his daughter to prom, but he also doesn't want to be that guy who doesn't make a move should the unthinkable happen to Katie. Babs sets out to make Katie realize what she has to live for and hopes he can be part of that future. That starts with the most important dance of a high schooler’s life. This is by far one of my favorite books in the series and not for the reason you might think. I LOVE Babs, but what I loved more was how a young girl who’s struggling with her mortality as well as dealing with being in high school was empowered by her experiences. Kudos once again to Catherine Gayle for keeping it real!

Everyone knows that Katie Weber and Jamie Babcock only have eyes for each other. But she’s still in high school, and her dad is Jamie’s NHL teammate, so dating is out of the question. But now Katie’s been diagnosed with leukemia, and while Jamie was content to wait a few years, he doesn’t know anymore if they’ll even have a few years. Since the story’s so short, there isn’t a lot of detail I can give without essentially telling the whole thing, but suffice it to say that this was one romantic prom experience. Since Katie is so young, it’s not about sex, but rather about falling in love, accepting life and fighting for it, and believing in hope even when things seem hopeless. For anyone reading the Portland Storm series, this novella is not to be skipped!
