About this eBook

With an introduction by Dame Judi Dench.
TALES FROM SHAKESPEARE is a perfect introduction to Shakespeare's greatest plays. Charles and Mary Lamb vividly bring to life the power of Hamlet and Othello, and the fun of As You Like It. They never lose the feel of Shakespeare's language and the tales are classic literature in their own right.

This is a great collection of Shakespeare's plays. I am specifically going to review "The WInter's Tale." In this tale King of Sicily, King Leontes, causes his wife to be falsely put in prison for being unfaithful and sends away his baby daughter as punishment. He later regrets this but his wife already died of sorrow and he doesn't know where his daughter is. Meanwhile his daughter was dropped off in a distant land and the man who did it was killed by a bear. A shepherd raised her as his daughter. The prince of the land sees her and falls in love with her, but his father, who is the one Leontes claimed loved his wife, doesn't permit their even seeing one another. A man from Leontes court takes the lovers with him back to Leontes' court were a happy reunion takes place.
