Acerca deste libro electrónico

"Die Kunst, Recht zu haben" or "The Art of Being Right," subtitled "38 Ways to Win an Argument," is a biting, sarcastic treatise by the German philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer. In this work, Schopenhauer explores thirty-eight strategies to defeat an opponent in a debate. He begins by noting that while philosophers have extensively studied the rules of logic, they haven't (especially since Immanuel Kant) delved as deeply into the murkier art of dialectics or controversy. Whereas logic traditionally aims at finding the truth, dialectics, according to Schopenhauer, deals with the interaction between two rational beings. When these beings, expected to think alike due to their rationality, begin to disagree, it's akin to two clocks showing different times, resulting in a dispute or intellectual contest.

Acerca do autor

Arthur Schopenhauer is considered one of the most important philosophers of the 19th century. In 1818, Schopenhauer published his most famous work, "The World as Will and Representation" ("Die Welt als Wille und Vorstellung"), which presented a comprehensive philosophical system that combined elements of Kantian idealism with Eastern philosophical ideas, particularly those from Hindu and Buddhist traditions. Schopenhauer argued that the fundamental reality of the world is not the external world as it appears to us but an underlying "will," a blind and irrational force driving all human desires and actions. He is best known for his profound contributions to metaphysics, ethics, and aesthetics, as well as for his pessimistic philosophy of life.
