About this ebook

When Barry Fairbrother dies in his early forties, the town of Pagford is left in shock.

Pagford is, seemingly, an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind the pretty facade is a town at war.

Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils. . . Pagford is not what it first seems.

And the empty seat left by Barry on the parish council soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet seen. Who will triumph in an election fraught with passion, duplicity and unexpected revelations?

A big novel about a small town, THE CASUAL VACANCY is J.K. Rowling's first novel for adults. It is the work of a storyteller like no other.

Well.. I'm part way through. Yes I bought it because of the author's reputation. So far I'm enjoying it. But please don't buy it with any preconceptions about the plot and style and don't buy it because you like teenage wizard novels. It is nothing like the Potter books. This in itself shows Joe Rowling's adaptability. Well done that woman for creating something completely different!

This is a clear example of a talented storyteller tainting her image and reputation by endeavouring upon a new venture in a genre that she is evidentally not competent with. After the incredible success of the Harry Potter franchise, Rowling has shown that she knows how to write a good story that appeals to all demographics, but unfortunately the spark of her creative genius has been extinguished in 'Casual Vacancy'. Poor writing; poor content; dire reading.

JK Rowling is transphobic trash, she literally won an award for it. Yay BBC. But anyway, this story is sad and misleading with a terrible plot and BLAH heroes and heroines, but read it if you wanna, not my place to judge. But seriously, its grim for the sake of being grim, it only did so well 'cus of the famous name.
