However, he is best remembered for his contributions to the science fiction genre thanks to his groundbreaking works such as 'The Time Machine' (1895), 'The Island of Doctor Moreau' (1896), 'The Invisible Man' (1897), and 'The War of the Worlds' (1898). Wells was also a futurist and a visionary, often contemplating the plight and potential of human progress, or its absence, with his critical and sometimes satirical prose.
