About this eBook

Seven years ago, she lost her husband.

Three years ago, her daughter was taken from her.

Today, she’s taking back her life.

Being taken in by the O’Connells would be a bit overwhelming for some. But for Reine Colbert, the feeling of being on the outside, looking in is all too familiar. Yet when Suzanne O’Connell, the unruly rule-breaker, steps in with her very pregnant sister Karen to right all the wrongs Reine has suffered along the way, she exposes a deeply guarded secret involving crimes against other women, and the three soon find themselves in a perilous situation that could leave one of them paying the ultimate price.

THE GATEKEEPER illustrates the injustices that occur every day in society caused by large businesses taking unfair advantage of and manipulating the lives of those who are not in positions to fight back, often resulting in threats of bodily harm and likely death; all in the name of profit. This is just one challenge Reine Colbert has had to face in her difficult life, but this time she’s not alone. The O’Connells have accepted Reine into their family; well, almost all the O’Connells. And once you’re family, someone will always have your back. But this isn’t the only challenge Reine has had to face. One thing Marcus O’Connell hates is a person in a position of authority taking advantage of those under their control. He knows Reine’s parole officer is up to no good, but until he can catch him in the act, he’ll just have to keep a close eye on him – that is, until someone else takes steps to “remediate” the situation. The O’Connells are back and this time they’re stepping up to fight for and protect Eva’s birth mother. Reine Colbert has been kicked down repeatedly during Eva’s lifetime, but she always picks herself up. And this time she’s determined no one’s going to keep her from being a part of her daughter’s life. But there are unexpected emotions at play that may make this more of a challenge than anyone expected, especially Marcus. This story is a roller coaster ride of strong emotional challenges and moral and ethical values that will keep you turning pages late into the night, but any loss of sleep will be well worth it. It’s a fast-paced, gripping read that will capture your interest from the beginning, keep you turning pages throughout, and tug hard on your heartstrings through the end. There’s a lot within this book that will draw out strong feelings at the injustices that Reine, and other women/families in similar situations, have had to endure, but it also portrays the strength, love, support, and forgiveness that a family can and should show to one another. The O’Connells is an amazing saga of family and societal values that everyone should read.
