About this eBook

An undercover warrior and her sworn enemy play a seductive game of cat-and-mouse in New York Times bestselling author Monica McCarty’s sexy Highland Guard novel.

Joan Comyn swore allegiance to Robert the Bruce the day she witnessed England’s barbarous king torturing her famous mother, Scot patriot Bella MacDuff. Now the mysterious beauty slips into men’s hearts like a specter and entices England’s most illustrious barons to unwittingly divulge their secrets, then shares them with her king. Known only as the Ghost even among her Highland Guard brethren, Joan has become the most wanted traitor in England.

The man determined to uncover her identity poses her biggest threat yet. Alex Seton once stood with Bruce but now fights for the enemy. Though Joan knows she must avoid the handsome warrior or risk discovery, his knightly chivalry touches a place in her long since buried. When his suspicions grow apparent, Joan realizes she must do everything in her power to stop Alex from revealing her mission and convince the powerful fighter to join forces with the Highland Guard once more. But as the ultimate battle in the great war approaches, will Alex choose love or honor?

It is so sad that this was the last of the Highland Guard novels. The whole series has been absolutely amazing and I have anticipated as well as loved every one so far. This one was no exception in maintaining that love! Monica McCarty keeps you engaged and wanting more with every word, but alas there will be no more. :( When the final member of the Guard, Alex Seton, walked away and became a "traitor" to the Guard in a previous book, you couldn't help but think of him throughout all of the stories as they progressed. Having his match be Joan Comyn, the daughter of Bella from the fourth book The Viper, was super intriguing! I personally had a bit of a love/hate relationship with Joan because she felt extremely wishy-washy at times and seemed to seek out danger and purposefully do things to agitate Alex. It was rather frustrating. I loved Alex, the one character from the Guard who seemed more moved to develop peace between Robert the Bruce and the English without the bloodshed. He was given the job to discover who the spy for Robert was and you can imagine his surprise when he finds out it is Joan. As frustrating as she was, I did love watching the romance develop between the two of them. You really feel for Alex because while he went back to the English side of the war, he was doing everything to help Bruce's cause. For those of you who love highlander historical romances, this book, as well as the whole Highland Guard novels are totally for you.

loved this book but I'm upset there was not a reunion scene between Joan and Bella like it hinted at in the epilouge from The Viper. I feel it's incomplete without it considering what we all paid for the whole series!! that being said, I'm sad this series is at its end. I wish it would pick up with their kids and how they find each other! I love all of her work!

I'm sooooooo very sorry that this series had to end! I loved every minute of it I laughed a lot(A LOT) I was angry at their mistakes... I fell in love with them and I was sad about the deaths that came... (Friends family...) like they were my brethren that fell... She has a way to put u in the story that I haven't seen in an other arthur... And I read!! A LOT!!! Also a thing that I loved about her books is the "arthur's notes"! I love to read where the ideas came from and what really happened in that period of time! Thank you very much for the journey that you took us with you and the Highland Guard! Airson an Leomhann!!!

About the author

Monica McCarty is the bestselling author of the Highland Guard series, the MacLeods of Skye trilogy, and the Campbell trilogy. Her interest in the Scottish clan system began in the most unlikely of places: a comparative legal history course at Stanford Law School. After realizing that her career as a lawyer and her husband’s transitory life as a professional baseball player were not exactly a match made in heaven, she traded in her legal briefs for Scottish historical romances with sexy alpha heroes. Monica McCarty lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with her husband and their two children.
