I strongly resonated with the protagonists struggle with mental health and actually found the ending, whilst in some ways may be thought of as disappointing, is actually an amazing end for the struggles he had faced. Mental health disorders don't just disappear and, especially with things like PTSD and substance abuse. To arrive at a place where you accept who you are rather than getting upset and annoyed at it constantly, you can begin to have some sort of life. I've taken some beautiful lessons from this book and I'd encourage anyone with a love of art to read it. it may be slow, but i think it's worth it.

This book, like Donna's other titles, needs commitment, as it is a long and at times arduous journey, but one that is ultimately rewarding. You come to know Theo as well as he can be known, and in their process learn a little about yourself as well..

Inserts you into each moment, both vibrant and dark, delicate and in your face, perfectly paced, fantastical yet real, as absolute a masterpeace as its namesake. A beautifully descriptive and unpredictable story that will stay with me much like The Secret History has over the years. Donna Tartt is a genius. Just read it for yourself.
