One look at the welcoming party of Indians and Clint Adams knew that Fort Smith, Arkansas, was no place to let his pistol get cold. Seems folks there don't take kindly to strangers, especially ones that mosey into town with four of the meanest trail bandits in the territory. And the nastiest one of all is a hot-blooded female whose passion for the Gunsmith just barely matches her passion for killing. Things turn from bad to worse when Clint learns he's only riding shotgun to his reputation, which got to Fort Smith long before he did. Now an ornery hanging judge is asking him to pin on a marshal's badge and track a ruthless outlaw. And even the Gunsmith can't say no to a hanging judge...

J.R. Roberts (Robert J. Randisi) is an American author who writes in the Detective and Western genres. He has authored more than 500 published books and has edited more than 30 anthologies of short stories. Booklist magazine said he "may be the last of the pulp writers." He co-founded and edited Mystery Scene magazine and co-founded the American Crime Writers League. He founded The Private Eye Writers of America in 1981, where he created the Shamus Award. 2013: Mr. Randisi received the President's Award (which recognizes a major career contribution to excellence in Western literature) from the ReadWest Foundation.
