The event was an attempt by Irish nationalists to insight a full-blown rebellion against British rule with the intention of securing Ireland's independence. It was mainly confined to Dublin, resulting in the deaths of nearly 500 people. James Stephens (9 February 1880 - 26 December 1950) was an Irish novelist and poet.
