"The Lair of the White Worm" is a horror novel written by Bram Stoker in 1911. The story is based on the legend of the Lambton Worm and follows the central character, Adam Salton, who is contacted by his elderly great-uncle and becomes the heir to his estate. Adam finds himself in the midst of mysterious events involving a neighboring estate's new heir, Edgar Caswall, who is obsessed with mesmerism and attempts to break a local girl using his powers. As the story unfolds, Adam discovers black snakes on his great-uncle's property and buys a mongoose to hunt them down. He also learns about the existence of a giant snake-like creature called the White Worm, which dwells under Arabella's house. With the help of Sir Nathaniel, Adam plots to stop Arabella and destroy the White Worm. The novel has been criticized for its clumsy writing style and has been adapted into a film and a radio drama. Despite its flaws, "The Lair of the White Worm" remains a notable work in the horror genre.
