Thanks to a college softball scholarship, Ninah Faust escaped her upbringing as well, leaving eastern Kentucky’s impoverished coal country for the quaint small town of Leland. Though she’d always dreamed of becoming an astronaut, KG MacGregor earned her PhD in journalism and went to work as a political pollster and market researcher.
