About this eBook

Everyone in society knows that the marriage of Lord and Lady Hammond is an unhappy one. Everyone knows they have barely spoken to one another in over nine years. But what no-one in society knows are the reasons why ...

Lady Viola Courtland was a romantic and impulsive young girl when she fell instantly in love with the handsome and dashing Viscount Hammond. Unbeknownst to Viola, John Hammond had already given his heart to the only woman he would ever love—his cousin's wife—but he was in dire financial straits and desperately needed to marry a wealthy heiress. In Viola, he thought he had found the perfect woman—beautiful and rich with a sweet nature. But Viola was neither practical nor sensible when it came to marriage, for she fully expected her husband to love her and was determined to settle for nothing less. Soon, however, John's secret was unwittingly revealed, but by then they were married and it was too late. Until one day, John finally came to his senses and prayed it wasn't too late to win back the love of his very own wife.

(***Spoiler alert***) The writing is pretty cool. It engrosses you completely but that is the only thing good about this book. I had such high hopes for this book but the hero is a jerk of the highest quality. He cheats on her in the first freaking year of marriage and has a long list of lovers for eight years. Suddenly the idiot wants an heir and remenbers he has a wife. Even when the heroine starts to relent and asks him to be loyal to her from now on, he can't promise it to her because apparently 'a woman needs to make fidelity worth his while' ( by sex, of course). On top of that, he has the gall to say that he was sexually blackmailed when the heroine did not let him into her bed when she knew that he is a liar, cheater and a gold digger. I am glad I spoiled the ending for myself as apparently he has a bastard son with his last mistress and he accepts the son, makes him his heir and the heroine tacitly accepts it all and loves him still. She was more intelligent 8 years ago🙄 DNF

I'm usually not one for romance books but this one was extremely well written. Loved this book.
