Sobre aquest llibre

A new translation into modern American English directly from the original Russian manuscript. This edition contains an Afterword by the translator, a timeline of Tolstoy's life and works, and a glossary of philosophic terminology used throughout Tolstoy's literature and philosophy. "The Master and the Employee" by Leo Tolstoy is a compelling novella that explores the complex dynamics between a wealthy landowner and his loyal servant. Set against the backdrop of rural Russia, Tolstoy masterfully explores themes of power, hierarchy, and the intricacies of human relationships. Through the interactions between the landowner and his employee, Nikita, Tolstoy delves into the complexities of the class divide and the moral dilemmas faced by both parties. The narrative exposes the flaws and virtues of each character, presenting a nuanced and empathetic portrayal of their struggles and aspirations. Tolstoy's storytelling skills shine through his insightful character development and his ability to evoke a deep sense of empathy in the reader. "The Master and Servant is a thoughtful work that continues to engage readers for its exploration of human nature, social justice, and the search for true compassion in an unequal world. One of Tolstoy's lesser-known works, this novella remains a hidden gem in the canon of Russian literature, deserving of recognition and appreciation for its literary and philosophical merits.
