The story of the life and humanitarian activities of of Sempo (Chiune) Sugihara told in this The Miracle Visas has been made into a Japanese opera, 'White Nights of Love'. "White Nights of Love", composed by Japanese musician Toshi Ichiyanagi and librettist Takashi Tsujii, premiered in Yokahama, Japan in premiered in February, 2006. This is the dramatic story of Sempo Sugihara, Japan's Oskar Schindler. As the Japanese Consul General in Lithuania, he saved over 5,000 lives from the Nazis by issuing illegal exit visas. The story is told through the eyes of a young Jewish refugee whose father worked closely with Sempo Sugihara. In a world of lessons unlearned, violence, and hatred, this is the wonderful story of a selfless man with a passion for humanity. This book celebrates the great miracle of life itself.

Acerca del autor
Yutaka Taniuchi was born in Osaka, Japan in March 30, 1934. He began a writing career after graduating from the Osaka City University, Department of Commercial Science in 1957. The author has been active in writing for the theater for many years. His many works (translations of Japanese titles) include The Innocent Prisoner, Three Monkeys, Late Spring, Three Moles, and The King and the Beggar.
