Información sobre este eBook

From the Newbery medalist, the classic tale of four lively siblings that’s filled with both “deeply rooted emotional truth [and] entertainment value”(The New York Times).

Meet the Moffats. There is Sylvie, the oldest, the cleverest, and—most days at least—the responsible one; Joey, who despite being only twelve is the man of the house . . . sometimes; Janey, who has a terrific upside-down way of looking at the world; and Rufus, who may be the littlest but always gets in the biggest trouble.

Even the most ordinary Moffat day is packed with extraordinary fun. Only a Moffat could get locked in a bread box all afternoon, or dance with a dog in front of the whole town, or hitch a ride on a freight-train boxcar during kindergarten recess. And of course, only a Moffat could turn mistakes and mischief into hilarious one-of-a-kind adventure!

“Lots of fun on little money—that might be the theme of this delightful story . . . The flavor of the 1890s in a small country town is splendid, the children are real and individuals, the things that happen to them—and that they happen to—are fun to read about.” —Kirkus Reviews (starred review)

“A merry book with abundant humor.” —The Horn Book

Acerca del autor

Eleanor Estes (1906-1988) grew up in West Haven, Connecticut, which she renamed Cranbury for her classic stories about the Moffat and Pye families. A children’s librarian for many years, she launched her writing career with the publication of The Moffats in 1941. Two of her outstanding books about the Moffats—Rufus M. and The Middle Moffat—were awarded Newbery Honors, as was her short novel The Hundred Dresses. She won the Newbery Medal for Ginger Pye.
