The rain poured in torrents, a relentless drumming against the windows of the old Victorian house. The night was swallowed by an eerie darkness, broken only by flashes of lightning that briefly illuminated the decrepit mansion. Inside, a group of friends gathered for a reunion, seeking shelter from the storm.

Mark, a tall and skeptical man in his late twenties, poured himself a drink. "This place gives me the creeps," he muttered, eyeing the dimly lit hallway.

"It's just an old house," Elizabeth, his girlfriend, replied, trying to ease his nerves.

The group settled into the parlor, the air thick with anticipation and the musty scent of age. Among them was Rhonda, an avid storyteller known for her fascination with the supernatural.

As the night wore on, Rhonda's gaze fixated on a weathered portrait of a raven perched above the fireplace. Its eyes seemed to follow her every move. Curiosity piqued, she approached the painting.

"Isn't that the oddest thing?" she remarked, her voice trembling. "It's as if this raven is watching us."

Before anyone could respond, a loud, chilling cry echoed through the house, piercing the silence. The group exchanged startled glances.

"What was that?" Elizabeth gasped, her eyes wide with fear.
