The case of Daniel Paul Schreber was one of the most emblematic cases for Sigmund Freud, although the father of psychoanalysis never had a personal encounter with Schreber. Freud's analysis of the case was published in "Psychoanalytic Notes Upon an Autobiographical Account of a Case of Paranoia" in 1911, after reading Schreber's book: "Memoirs of My Nervous Illness (1903)". Sigmund Freud (1856-1939) was a neurologist and influential Austrian psychologist. He is considered the father of psychoanalysis and remains a strong influence in contemporary social psychology.

Born Sigismund Schlomo Freud on May 6, 1856, in Freiberg, Moravia, then part of the Austrian Empire, he was the son of Jacob Freud, a small merchant, and Amalie Nathanson, of Jewish origin. He was the firstborn of seven siblings.
