Miles from home. Trust no one. Suspect everyone.

Orla and Kate have been best friends forever. Together they’ve faced it all – be it Orla’s struggles as a new mother or Kate’s messy divorce. And whatever else happens in their lives, they can always look forward to their annual weekend away.

This year, they’re off to Lisbon: the perfect flat, the perfect view, the perfect itinerary. And what better way to kick things off in style than with the perfect night out?

But when Orla wakes up the next morning, Kate is gone. Brushed off by the police and with only a fuzzy memory of the night’s events, Orla is her friend’s only hope. As she frantically retraces their steps, Orla makes a series of shattering discoveries that threaten everything she holds dear. Because while Lisbon holds the secret of what happened that night, the truth may lie closer to home...

Wow Wow Wow! What a highly thrilling and intense read The Weekend Away is. Caught in its web from the very beginning, I could not put it down and I flew through the pages, making for a very enjoyable few hours it took me to read this. I was so caught up in it ,that I was both surprised and disappointed when it ended, I was loving it that much! Sarah has created a very addictive plot that follows two best friends, Orla and Kate, as they set off to Lisbon for a weekend away together. What was meant to be a relaxing few days catching up, soon turns into a nightmare, when after a boozy night out on the town, sees Orla waking up to an empty flat, a fuzzy recollection of the nights events and Kate gone without a trace! The story is told entirely from Orla’s point of view and her search for Kate after she is given the brush off from the police. As the story progresses, the more we are shown that their relationship is not as it seems and when we are given more insight into Kate’s character, the more I struggled to find any empathy towards her. But in saying that though, she has been perfectly written. This is the first book I have read from Sarah and it will most certainly not be my last. She has a style that just lures you in immediately, has you engaged and takes you on one twisty rollercoaster of a ride. She injects the right amount of tension and suspense that keeps you hooked till the finale which, shall I say is very interesting and completely unexpected! The Weekend Away is everything I hope for in a psychological thriller. With its thrilling plot, a host of questionable characters that Sarah does a great job of keeping her reader on their toes with, a lead that I found became an unreliable narrator as we got deeper into the story and a whole of lot of secrets, lies and deceit, makes this such a deliciously wicked read which I highly recommend! Thank you to NetGalley, Avon Books and Sarah Alderson for allowing me to read an advanced copy of The Weekend Away, which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

Excellent thriller, with lots of twists and turns that I did not see coming. The ending was a surprise, thought I had it worked out until the last page. Definitely an author I will read again.
