Cressida Cowell is one of my favourite children’s authors, the How to Train Your Dragon series is a real delight and I find (despite starting with the final book of the series) that The Wizards of Once is equally engaging. Xar is a wizard boy and Wish is a warrior girl, wizards and warriors are brought up to hate one another but, back in book 1, when Xar and Wish met something magical happened and they learned to work together to change their world. In this final book things reach the final denouement and the huge question is will they manage to use their spell to save the Wildwoods or will the Witches rule forever? Self evidently if you want to know the answer to that question, you are going to have to read the books for yourself. The book is exciting, adventurous and full of suspense. I loved this book and will be reading the series in full in due course. Aimed at children aged 9 to 14 but enjoyable by all who like to share books with their younger family members.
