This special issue of Politique étrangère celebrates the 40th anniversary of IFRI. It includes contributions by the best international specialists to clarify and shed light on the major trends affecting today’s effervescent world: Where is it taking us? What may happen on this global stage, in all its parts, over the next ten years?
How far is the world going to be “de-westernized”? Does modernity concentrate power, or dilute it? How should the advances of the international financial system be evaluated, and what are their limits? Can poverty be reduced further? Will the energy transition be successful? Chantal Delsol, née à Paris en 1947, est une philosophe, historienne des idées politiques, et romancière française. Elle fonde l'Institut de recherche Hannah Arendt en 1993 et devient membre de l'Académie des sciences morales et politiques en 2007.
Né à Singapour de parents immigrés indiens, Kishore Mahbubani a fait des études de philosophie et d'histoire avant de mener pendant près de trente ans une carrière de diplomate, notamment aux Nations unies. Depuis 2004, il est professeur et recteur de l'Ecole Lee Kuan Yew de politiques publiques de l'Université nationale de Singapour. Il a déjà publié deux livres : Can Asians Think et Beyond the Age of Innocence. Son troisième ouvrage, The New Asian Hemisphere (Le Défi asiatique), est sorti à New York en février 2008.
Né à Paris en 1905, mort en 1983, Raymond Aron, fut le condisciple de Jean-Paul Sartre et Paul Nizan à l’École normale supérieure. Agrégé de philosophie, Docteur ès lettres, il fut Professeur à l’ISP et à l’ENA, professeur de sociologie à la Sorbonne, directeur d’études à l’EPHE et professeur au Collège de France. Sa carrière journalistique débuta en 1940, lorsqu’il assure la rédaction en chef de France Libre à Londres. Il fut ensuite éditorialiste à Combat, puis au Figaro, avant d’entrer à L’Express. De son premier ouvrage, paru en 1935, à ses Mémoires, son œuvre immense a marqué toute une époque.
