About this ebook

From New York Times bestselling author Thea Harrison comes the first of two explosive new stories set in the Elder Races world…. Dragos and Pia are back by popular vote!

***THIS STORY ENDS IN A CLIFFHANGER***

Saying goodbye to their old life in the Wyr demesne in New York may be hard, but Dragos and Pia are determined to create a new life in the Other land of Rhyacia.

At first, everything seems idyllic. Rhyacia is paradisiacal. Accompanied by old friends and new allies, the future looks safe and bright for Dragos, Pia, and baby Niall.

But strange things are happening beneath the picturesque façade. Items move unaccompanied, buildings collapse without justifiable cause, and even the most Powerful residents of Rhyacia can provide no logical explanation for the events transpiring. Whispered rumors point to something called the unseen.

As Dragos and Pia investigate, they uncover a greater mystery than they could have imagined, and they realize the startling truth…

They’re not alone in Rhyacia. The land Dragos had thought was uninhabited hides many secrets, a shocking history that’s not quite ready to be buried, and something more.

Something ancient, evil, and hungry. Something that wants to consume Dragos and take everything he holds dear.

Something that just may be powerful enough to overcome the dragon…

***This is book 1 in a series of 2 connected novellas. The first book ends in a cliffhanger.***

There are characters that are unforgettable and when the author tells you that she's done with them and there won't be any further stories then they leave a vacuum behind. Pia and Dragos are pretty much my all time favorite PNR couple and I just can't get enough. So when Thea Harrison decided to document their move into the Otherworld Rhyacia it was like Christmas and Easter and birthday and every other holiday on the same day for me. Pia and Dragos's relationship has come so far. Pia has really grown into her own. The tragedies and tough times she experiences have left a mark and a backbone of steel and iron will that wasn't as obvious before. She was never a doormat but now she's a sweet but feisty herbivore unicorn who stands up for herself. Dragos is still mystified by women, even after years of marriage. I always get a kick out of seeing this ancient, most powerful dragon bamboozled by stuff Pia does or says. It's really a hoot. When this almost godlike creature very reluctantly adopts an ugly mutt the hilarity has no end. Seeing Dragos's fierce love for Pia is always a highlight - that's something the author does so well. Dragos and Pia's move to their new home doesn't go smoothly. Along for the ride are many familiar faces like Graydon and Beluviel, Tricks and Tiago, only to name a few. Seeing them again really makes me want to re-read the whole series. The cliffhanger Thea leaves us with is brutal. I hope she writes fast like the wind because I can't wait to continue this story. I adored this journey back into the world of the Elder Races and I hope Thea Harrison keeps writing stories about this fascinating universe and the mythical creatures inhabiting it. This was a beautiful start to this serial. "For him, love was a collection of moments like this. Strung together like luminous pearls on a string"

as a novella, this is a quick & easy read, however I think it is geared toward those familiar the elder series already (those new to the series may find the characters, past referenced events, and general worldbuilding to be confusing). As novella, there isn't much time fit a lot of story in and this one starts on the slow side. if you're a big fan of Dragos and Pia and enjoy seeing bits of their everyday feel then you'll enjoy this part a bit more than if you want to rush right into the adventure. Things do pick up and start getting interesting, but alas that's were the cliffhanger comes in as the book comes to an end but the story hasn't. (luckily the author does make clear up front that there is a cliffhanger and that the full story is told over 4 novellas so this was not a surprise). while I'm curious where the story will be going from here, the slow start for such a much written about couple, brought the enjoyment level down for me. however, as I already mentioned, if you are a fan and enjoy any insight into this power couple's day and life, that slow start will not be an issue for you. arc courtesy of the author for a fair and honest review

This is a wonderful addition to the Elder Races World that continues Dragos and Pia’s life and love story. I will say it started out a little slow for me but then the pace picked up and wow Ms Harrison hit it out of the park. The premise is very intriguing and while I am not a fan at all of cliff hangers, I was well warned ahead of time that all the novellas in this story arc are cliff hangers. The stories are being released in quick succession so that is good because I can’t wait to see where this story goes. This book also lets us see how several other members of the Elder Races are living their lives which is a great treat. Readers should really give themselves the gift of reading the previous books in the Elder Races World so they can better connect with Dragos and Pia, as well as the other peripheral characters. The latter half of the book has a good bit of action and suspense and I look forward to the continued world building in the “other lands”. Thank you to Ms Harrison for the opportunity to receive an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
