Den Untersuchungsgegenstand der Arbeit stellt eine bisher noch unerforschte und kaum bekannte randständige Form der deutschen Grammatik dar, das komplexe Partizipialattribut (= komplexes PA). Komplexe PA sind nicht aus einem Verb, sondern aus einem Verbalkomplex gebildet. Durch eine systematische korpuslinguistische Recherche werden die Typen dieser Struktur erschlossen, ihre Gebrauchsfrequenz ermittelt und dadurch ihre Marginalität aufgezeigt. Im Mittelpunkt des Buches steht die Frage, ob das komplexe PA trotz des marginalen Status als Teil des deutschen grammatischen Systems betrachtet werden kann. Hierzu wird ein theoretisches Konzept zur Bewertung des Systemstatus grammatischer Strukturen erarbeitet, das exemplarisch auf einen komplexen PA-Typ, PII+habend, angewendet wird. Das entwickelte Konzept bietet auch eine fundierte theoretische Grundlage für künftige Auseinandersetzungen mit grammatischen Randphänomenen. Darüber hinaus leistet das Buch einen Beitrag zur vollständigen Erschließung des Systems des Partizipialattributs im Deutschen.
