Mit seiner Scienza Nuova hat Giambattista Vico (1668–1744) nicht nur einen umfassenden Entwurf einer Kulturphilosophie vorgelegt, sondern zugleich ein Exempel spätbarocker Bildphilosophie. Den Zugang zu diesem Hauptwerk Vicos stellt ein Bild dar, die sogenannte ,Dipintura‘, welches gemäß der Intention des Autors die „Idee des Werkes“ verkörpern soll. Die Studie zu „Vicos Denkbild“ geht anhand einer detaillierten Betrachtung der Originaldrucke der spekulativen Bedeutung dieser Buchillustration nach, in deren Zentrum die Figur der Metaphysik steht. Mit Bezugnahme auf die in der Scienza Nuova entwickelte "poetische Logik" erweist sich dabei die Lehre vom Ingenium als epistemologische Grundlage solchen Bilddenkens.
