Under the greenwood tree

I'm still under the spell of this book, and it has a lot of Hardy's great charm and observations of country life. That said, the plot and the story development is very basic compared to his masterpieces. I recently read his A Pair of Blue Eyes and found that a far deeper read, whereas the characters here seem comparatively underdeveloped.

Thomas Hardy tells an interesting tale but in the most boring way possible.
