Ragtime - auch Rag-Time oder Rag-Time genannt - ist ein Musikstil, der seine größte Popularität zwischen 1895 und 1919 erlebte. Sein Hauptmerkmal ist der synkopische oder "zerlumpte" Rhythmus. Ragtime wurde zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts durch den Ragtime-Komponisten Scott Joplin und seine Schule des klassischen Ragtime populär, die nach Joplins Tod im Jahr 1917 von James Scott und Joseph Lamb weitergeführt wurde. Maple Leaf Rag, The Entertainer, Fig Leaf Rag, Frog Legs Rag und Sensation Rag gehören zu den bekanntesten Liedern des Genres. Der Ragtime war ein unmittelbarer Vorläufer des Jazz.
